Caulks and Sealants

Incorporation of polybutenes in a variety of molecular weights provides property improvements to caulk and sealant applications.

Use of Soltex Polybutene in caulk and sealant applications is advantageous because:

  • Plasticizer effect increases sealant flexibility.
  • Tackiness results in a soft, easily extruded sealant.
  • Reduced use of solvents provides environmental benefits.
  • Improves adhesion and aging.
  • Low moisture transmission.
  • Lower oil-to-filler ratios.
  • Extruded onto tape.
  • Minimizes shrinkage after application.
  • Polybutene functions in a caulk as a primary vehicle to bind and wet the fillers, thereby improving the flow characteristics.
